We’ve been hearing and reading about green steel for a long time now, embracing it’s process as one of the arguments against the continuing pursuit of metallurgical coal for steelmaking. The persistence of the Government of Alberta to encourage coal mine development in our Eastern Slopes watershed is hard to fathom, especially in the context of “responsible coal development”.
If the Smith government really wanted to wear the mantle of responsibility for Albertans and Canadians as a whole, she and her ministers would need to take a more realistic look at the future of not only steelmaking, but the added benefits of retarding pollution poisoning both locally and globally. There really shouldn’t be the continuing need for this ongoing and nonsensical battle.
The following link is a very insightful view and tour of green steelmaking in Sweden. These may well be the true leaders of our move forward in the evolution of a material that there is no denying, we will continue to need and use.
Have a look here.
The Smith government and responsibility don’t belong in the same sentence, follow the money.
